Statement of Teaching
As a civil engineering educator with expertise in structural engineering and a research focus on natural hazards and community resilience, my goal is to prepare students who are not only technically proficient but also capable of making responsible, risk-informed decisions that protect public safety. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that clarity is achieved through progression. I design courses that build from fundamentals to complex applications through purposeful practice, visual scaffolding, and active learning. I support student success through clear structure, timely feedback, and inclusive practices that maintain high expectations while creating an environment where students can participate confidently. Ultimately, I aim to develop engineers who not only know how to compute but also understand how to interpret results, justify choices, and contribute to resilient infrastructure and safer communities.
